Loneliness for me is more to do with not being hypnotised by time and flowing with it, everyday like a computer lab simulation. It's a feeling of absolute clarity, about yourself, on who you could have been but what you turned out to be.
All your mistakes hound you, all your decisions hound you. You have friends, you are not alone but you don't have yourself to support you any more in fighting with the onset of the word, introspection. Time gives perspective, they say!
