Spoils of War

We've been the spoils of war for both the victor and the vanquished
A trophy that was discarded once a purpose was fulfilled

We've been the spoils of war in the old days and the new
A medium for vengeance - exploited and lived only a few.

Should have witnessed the men as they marched into our lands
Sparing none of us - we were cattle in the slaughter stands

Should have witnessed them men transform into beasts
Marching on forward gloating over their feats

Did Jinnah pause for a second to ponder over the loss
Did Nehru fear for his brethren and the impending loss

War Medals we were, with no place to call home
Then came the government to call us back home

Caged like a bird, with wings clipped off
With litter of our own - here the buck stopped

Where were they when Bauji was beheaded
Where were they when I was dragged naked?

Where were you all, you leaders of our nation?
Where were you all, when your daughters were getting beaten?

The ones who went back were snubbed by their own
Those left behind had no where else to go.

We are the spoils of war and we will be the death of you all.

War and other things

He walks alone at night in a weather beyond his might
He walks alone without a sigh, for without him they would die

He trains hard to fight, his battles and his plight
He trains hard to fight, your battles and your plight.

He is trained to kill one who tries trespassing
He is trained to kill one who'd spill blood while sparring

He has a family who he sees not often
He has a family who he loves and his heart softens

His sacrifices gives us the home we call secure
His sacrifices gives us our motherland so pure.

He stands across a line, we call the border of our nation
He stands across a line that was divided by the rulers of our nation

He recollects the stories of brotherhood and love, his father once narrated
He recollects the stories when each one was brutally separated

He sheds a tear for every man he guns down
He sheds a tear because they are no more brothers now

He lives a life governed by propaganda and politics
And spends time on the front lines serving those political fanatics.

He hasn't seen his family in over a year
He hasn't seen the end of war for over a number of years

He is a soldier on the fronts lines of our nation
He is a son that belongs to both India and Pakistan, if we only forget the boundaries of their creation.
